Detail

Henry William Bunbury (1750 – 1811) was an amateur artist, hence the addition of the courtesy title of Esq.
The second son of Sir William Bunbury,  of Mildenhall, Suffolk, he showed a talent for drawing, especially humorous subjects. Whilst one can not compare his work to that of his contemporaries Thomas Rowlandson or James Gilray, in that he never saught to offend by attempting political satire, his relaxed circumstances and social position gave him the leisure to practise his talents without resorting to biting artistic comments.
